SMB Groundworks and Servicing is Shane Brooker's business. He prices the work, he runs the job and he is the person you call afterwards, so the ground gets dug out properly and the finish is one he is willing to put his own name on.
Who We Help and What We Do
Most of our work is for homeowners across Kent who have reached the point where the front of the house or the back garden has to be dealt with properly. A driveway that holds water and sinks at the gate. A patio laid on sand that now rocks underfoot. A garden room ordered with no base to stand on. A fence line that went over in the last big wind. These are ground problems, and they are fixed at ground level or not at all.
We also work for builders, landlords and property owners who need the unglamorous part done right before anything else can happen, dig-out and muck away, sub-base, drainage runs, ducting for power and services, core drilling through walls, and street works where a crossover or connection touches the public highway. That side of the trade is where the qualifications matter, and it is the reason we hold NRSWA street works and a full digger ticket rather than hiring in someone else's.
Twenty-five years is long enough to have seen how Kent ground actually behaves. The clay around the Weald that moves with the seasons. The chalk on the downs that drains fast until it doesn't. The soft, wet ground on the marsh side of the county that swallows a shallow sub-base whole. You cannot price that from a satellite image, which is exactly why every job we take on starts with Shane standing on the site.
We cover Kent, Maidstone, Medway, Canterbury, Ashford, Sittingbourne, Faversham, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Dartford and Gravesend, plus the villages around them. If your town is not on the list it is still worth the call; how far we travel depends on the job as much as the postcode.

The base decides the job
Most failed driveways and patios fail underneath, not on top. Dig-out depth, a compacted sub-base and the right falls are where the time goes on our jobs, because that is what decides whether the surface is still flat in ten years.
Priced in person, not over the phone
Shane comes out and looks at the ground, the access, the drainage and what is already there before giving a price. A phone estimate on a job nobody has seen is a guess, and guesses turn into mid-job price changes.
One team, one point of contact
You deal with Shane from the first visit through to the last sweep-up. No call centre, no rotating subcontractors who have never spoken to you, no being handed between departments.
We come back if it isn't right
There is no formal written warranty period. What there is instead is straightforward: if something isn't right after we have finished, you call and we come back and put it right.
One thing we will not do is claim cover or credentials we do not hold. Where a job needs a structural engineer or building control sign-off, underpinning being the clearest example, those approvals sit with you and your engineer, and we will tell you that at the site visit rather than after the invoice.
